My new android app Words Reminder for English readers
Are you a reader? or schoolboy or girl who is trying to learn English as an international language. What is the biggest obstacle you have when you reading, writing, or talking in English? I guess that it is the words you always struggle with. You discover a lot of words in your day-to-day life. But when you are trying to memorize them again in some other time, you might have forgotten them. That is totally normal situation. Because If you are not using them regularly, those words will be forgotten. It happens to me as well. So I came up with a solution for this and it is the Words Reminder App that I have developed in this quarantine time period.
To give you a basic idea of what it does and why will it be important, I will tell my story behind this application. 🙂
I started reading a book since I have free time nowadays due to Covid-19, The book I selected was an interesting novel which was written in the English language. When I was reading that you, a lot of new words were found and I wanted those words to be memorized but I always forgot the word and its usage. So there was an idea came to my mind to develop an application to keep the words that I discover while reading the book. But then I raised another question to mind that can I remember the word itself? or do I need to keep that word with the sentence I found?. So the decision was to keep the word and sentence together in the app. So I created an app and it is the page I develop for keeping the word.
However, I must say that I am a very lazy person 😛 and I didn’t want to enter the sentence every time when the word is discovered. So I implemented an OCR module that will capture the words with the camera and make the things easier with entering the sentence.
Words Reminder Challenges
Just reading what you have entered won’t memorize the words because sometimes it is boring to read a sentence in order to memorize them. Then I thought of adding a quiz game to you to have a little fun with the words you have entered. There are four challenges you can choose.
- Daily Challenge: Based on the words that you have entered within the last 24 hours
- Weekly Challenge: Based on the words that you have entered within the last Week.
- Monthly Challenge: Based on the words that you have entered within the last Month.
- Random word Challenge: Based on all words that you have entered.
I have tested these challenges with me and those challenges were really effective for me. I normally take daily challenge 2 or 3 times per day and I memorized all the words that I have entered within the day. 😉
Let’s see how the words reminder challenges looks like
On the right side, you can see the overall look of the quiz page. At the top of the screen, you could see the sentence that you had entered which replaced the word that you specified with the lines of dots. Now you need to memorize the correct word for this.
The hint you provided when you adding the word is displayed here to get an idea of the word. But… you cannot go forward without giving the correct answer, that is the beauty of this game. 😀 😛
But what if I don’t remember the answer at all?
Don’t worry we have a solution that as well. If you cannot guess the correct word then you can click this Yellow color bulb icon and then half of your answer will be completed in the sentence. Then you have to guess the remaining part. 😛 . Then If you are unable to guess the remaining part then click the icon again. It will show you the full word you have entered. Then enter it in the answer panel and you can move to the next question. When you take this challenge several times per day, You won’t need to use that hint in the next day for sure.
This is the basic introduction of my new android application. I hope you will enjoy this as much as I do.
